Bangkok: An unfiltered guide for Solo travellers

Thailand has always been my go-to place whenever I need solitude from my daily works, and the close proximity to where I am live now also plays a crucial part. It was the first country that I started my solo travelling journey and, till now, I could remember the fight or flight feelings when I decided to solo travel (I chose the latter - literally).

So if you ever stumble upon this guide and/or always wanted to travel solo. I hope this guide could be a good place for you to gain some confidence and JUST GO FOR IT.

Part 1: Choosing a flight to Bangkok

Every dollar saves could make a huge differences, and depends on what types of travellers you are (Some go for luxury trip, and others go for budget).

Also, as Bangkok is one of the most popular cities in the world, there are a strong demand in flights and I realized a lot of people around me are still buying air tickets around the weekends (Most expensive days of the week to purchase). I am not sure how the Pro(s) do it but these are my ways:

Step 1: Incognito is your best friend.

The number one rule is to be untrackable online as "Cookies" from various sites could trace your activities and could predict where you are going, or what products you would potentially buy.

Step 2: Using another device and email address to track prices

To be safe, always check on the flight using another device and use another email address if possible. [Note: lowest price is always at Mon/Tue midnight].

You could also use Google Flight to track prices but, again, use another email for it.

Step 3: Always use credit card (if you can!) to purchase tickets.

To make your purchase more worth it, always opt for payment using credit card (especially miles cards) and earn miles for future potential business class flight!

Personally, I have three credit cards (all miles!). It is not wise to use cashback and miles card together, it is better to use either one (we can`t have the best of both worlds)...

Part 2: Choosing accomodation at Bangkok

Next, for the accomodation in Bangkok, I have been using Agoda and it has been great so far. I could recommend you on some places that fit all budgets and I think are quite good:

For budget travellers: Silom Space Hostel & Tiang Capsule

This was the first accomodation I stay at when I first started solo trippin around the world. It has been go to place for a short stay ever since, or whenever I am on a tight budget - I only go for their private room with toilet as I prefer to have my own personal space at Silom Space.

Situated at Silom (near Sala Daeng BTS & Silom MRT), the accessibility of this place is the main reason why I chosen this place. The only con is there is a famous LGBTs club at the ground level. So if you are light sleeper who will awake at the slightest bass frequency, you should move away to Tiang Capsule (another budget hostel with private room). However, it is nearer to Samyan Mrt than Silom Mrt.

For travellers with a bit more budget: Ibis & The Quarter

Ibis and The Quarter took great care of me whenever I was there as a guest, service was always great and the location was great too. To be honest, there is really no con in these two accomodation except for the prices during high peaked seasons.

Hopefully, the above tips I provided could be useful in your planning and please feel free to chat with me!

Finally, wishing everyone a good and prosperous Happy Lunar New Year! 😄
